There were two sources of tea carried from the 17th-18th century by camel caravans to Russian capital city: from China and from India. This caused two different blends types with same name: Russian Caravan. Blend sourced from China and carried by old Silk Road used smoked tea called Lapsang, Keemun and Oolong. It is most classic blend with name Russian Caravan. Another one, most popular, used tea from India, mainly from Assam, and from Ceylon blended with smoked Chinese Lapsang. But all Russian Caravan blends have same characteristic and always are described as an aromatic and full-bodied tea with a sweet, malty taste. Presents of smoked Lapsang gave to the blend this desired smoky layer sought after by connoisseur from all over the world. Anecdotal evidence had it that during the camel caravan journeys, the teas took on the smoky taste of the campfires. Only the Lapsang smoked tea is actually source of this taste.
Our Russian Caravan blend consist of smoked tea called Lapsang, black China Keemun tea and Oolong tea. It is the most classic blend. Liquid is coppery to dark amber when longer brewed in "samovar style", aroma is very attractive with toasty notes gently noticable on top of the natural tea aroma, flawour is full bodied, balanced and pleasantly nice.
Classic: 2 to 3 grams, 200 mills of water at around 95+ C degrees, 3 to 5 mins depend on preferences. Infuse with boiling water for up to 3 minutes if you want your tea stimulating and energizing; 3-5 minutes if you want it to have a soothing and relaxing effect.
After you have finished brewing, take the leaves out of the cup/teapot – if they remain in the water too long, they start releasing tannins. Tannin makes tea taste bitter, inhibits absorption of magnesium and iron which are necessary for the body to function properly.
